  Photography and my Grandpar     My late Grandfather John Winter Nicolle was a keen amateur Photographer and a Cabinet Maker and French polisher,   He made cameras out of wood and attached lenses to them,he also had his own dark room where he created the photo below, note there are two of him! remember this was the 40’s and even with Photoshop I would struggle to create this masterpiece in today’s world. He was truly a very talented Man.  The passing of my Grandpa As mentioned above, My grandfather was a professional Freelance photographer, he spent Many hours up at Grosnez, during his youth and as an elder person, my grandfather also spent many hours in Alderney French polishing furniture for the Germans that’s how he escape the camps as he was a French Polisher and cabinet maker. I lost my grandfather in 2014 and on the day he passed I needed some headspace so I went up to one of my favourite places in this case Grosnez to take some photograp...

The island seems to have escaped at the moment mass tourism but has gained popularity in recent years following it’s use as the location for Louis de Bernières ” Captain Corelli’s Mandolin ” which was filmed in the old Sami area. The island is developed mainly around the coastal edges with pretty fishing villages and breathtakingly beautiful beaches and although the south has lovely sandy beaches, I prefer the more rugged beaches and crystal blue water...
